AI Speed Gun – Speed From Distance and Time

How fast was that cyclist going? 🚴 AI Speed Gun turns your phone camera into a simple speed calculator. You enter your distance to the path, the camera times how long a passing cyclist takes to cross the view, and the app calculates the approximate speed in km/h or mph.

📱 How to use it

1. Stand still beside a cycle path or quiet road, about 2 to 5 metres away.

2. Set that distance in Settings (1 to 100 metres).

3. Tap DETECT, hold your phone steady and point the camera across the path.

4. Let a cyclist pass from one side of the screen to the other. You see the speed live, and the result is saved automatically when the movement stops – with a sound and vibration if you like.

📐 How the speed is calculated

At a known distance, the camera view covers a known width of the path. The app follows the moving subject from frame to frame and divides the distance it travels across the view by the time it takes – the same distance-and-time principle as timing someone between two markers. The more accurate your distance setting, the closer the result.

✨ AI distance suggestion

When something starts to move, the app can send a camera snapshot to an online AI service that recognises what is passing – for example a person or a bicycle – and suggests a distance based on its typical size. You can always set the distance yourself.

⚙️ Settings

- km/h or mph

- Distance to the path or road

- Sound and vibration when a result is saved

- Front or back camera

- Tips and reference speeds for walking, running, cycling and city traffic

🚴 Use it to

- Check the bike speed of cyclists passing your street or cycle path

- Compare passes and see the speed of each one over time

💡 Good to know

- Results are approximate and depend on how accurately you set the distance.

- Works best with cyclists passing 2 to 5 metres away, moving across the screen rather than toward you.

- Keep the phone still: moving the camera changes the result.

- Slow, small, distant or very large subjects may not be picked up.

- AI Speed Gun is not a radar and not a certified speed-measuring device.
